Just like humans, dogs are supposed to get all the nutrients they need from their food. But again, just like humans, this isn't always possible. Support your dog's daily wellbeing with our specially formulated multivitamins for dogs, containing a blend of 17 essential vitamins and minerals.

Why dogs need multivitamins

Dogs are omnivores, meaning they eat a variety of foods. However, most dogs don't get all the nutrients they need from their shop bought dog food, or even their homemade dog food.

Some dogs, for example, have medical conditions that affect their ability to absorb nutrients (e.g. kidney disease), while others may have an increased need for certain nutrients (e.g. large breed dogs).

But that's not the only reason your dog will benefit from taking multivitamins:

  • Vitamins and minerals are essential to your dog's body's health. They help with metabolism, growth, and supporting the immune system as well as many other functions that keep your furry friend going on a daily basis.
  • Most dogs don't get everything they need from commercial pet foods alone. The average dry food from most pet shop brands contain only 20% of the recommended daily value for essential vitamins and minerals. Meaning it's necessary for owners to add supplements to their dog's diet in order to maintain adequate nutrition levels in their pets' bodies, keeping them in optimum health.
  • Dogs with special dietary needs - such as puppies, pregnant dogs, and lactating females - may require additional supplementation to ensure optimal health.

What dog vitamins is my pup missing?

Even though you may be feeding your dog the best food, they might still be deficient in some essential micro nutrients. Dogs, like humans, cannot make their own vitamins and need to get them from other sources, such as supplements.

You can tell if your dog is lacking in a vitamin or mineral by observing symptoms. Symptoms of vitamin deficiencies may include:

  • Poor coat and skin health
  • Weak muscles and bones
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Eye problems, like night blindness or yellowing of the eyes
  • Digestive issues, such as vomiting and diarrhoea
  • Poor appetite

If your dog has any of these symptoms and you're not sure what's causing them, talk to your vet about whether they could be related to a nutritional deficiency.

Dogs need different dog multivitamins at different ages

Puppies

Puppies require more of certain vitamins and minerals during this short period of their life than at any other point in their lives. Since they grow so fast, they need specific nutrients to help them develop properly. This is because as they're growing, they need vitamins and minerals to support cell growth, repair and development.

For example, puppies need more vitamin K than adult dogs because the vitamin plays an important role in bone development. Puppies also need more calcium than adult dogs due to rapid bone growth at this stage of life.

In addition to these two nutrients, puppies should be getting twice as much iron as adults do because they're producing new red blood cells at such a quick rate - and red blood cells require iron for production.

Adult Dogs

As your dog grows into adulthood, and beyond, their nutritional requirements change again. Most adult dogs, for example, have lower requirements for vitamins A and D relative to puppies; however, many studies show these vitamins A and D relative to puppies: however, many studies show these vitamins can help maintain healthy skin and coat throughout your pet's life (especially if they've been born with a genetic predisposition toward dry skin).

Older Dogs

Elderly dogs on the other hand often need more (and different) nutrients than their younger counterparts do, to maintain health and vitality as they age. Research suggests that giving older dogs extra vitamin E, for example, may help slow signs of aging like arthritis or cataracts.

Essential vitamins and minerals for dogs

Vitamin A (Retinol)

Vitamin A (also known as retinol) is an essential vitamin that your dog needs to maintain healthy vision, skin, and immune system function.

This nutrient helps your dog's eyesight by allowing them to see in dim light, while also preventing night blindness. It's helps with maintaining healthy skin and keeping it from drying out or getting dry patches.

Vitamin A also plays an important role in building your dog's strong immune system: it helps keep bacteria from invading cells throughout your pet's body, which can lead to infections if left untreated.

Vitamin Bs

The B vitamins are a group of water-soluble vitamins that play an important role in energy production, immune function and nervous system health. They're necessary for the body to make energy from food, and they also help maintain healthy skin, eyes and coat.

B1 (Thiamine)

Vitamin B1 (also known as thiamine) is essential for digestion, good brain function and heart health. It helps with digestion by promoting the absorption of fats and proteins into the bloodstream, which helps your dog's body use them effectively as fuel sources.

Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)

Vitamin B2, or riboflavin, helps your dog's body produce energy. This vitamin is important for healthy skin and fur, as well as a strong immune system, and making red blood cells.

Without enough riboflavin in their diet, your dog may develop eye problems or other problems related to vision loss as well as heart disease or cancerous tumours on internal organs such as their liver or kidneys.

Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

Vitamin B3, also known as niacin, is essential for energy production and healthy skin and coat. In dogs, vitamin B3 can be converted into NADH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), which is an important co-factor in many metabolic processes that are essential for good health.

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic Acid)

Vitamin B5, or pantothenic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a role in metabolism and growth. Vitamin B5 is important for energy production as well as the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.

It's also necessary for healthy skin and fur because it helps control the synthesis of fatty acids (which maintain the integrity of your dog's coat). As such, it may help prevent dry skin conditions like mange or eczema on dogs with sensitive coats.

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)

Vitamin B6 is another essential nutrient that's important for growth and red blood cell formation. It also plays a role in the production of serotonin, which helps with brain function.

Vitamin B7 (Biotin)

Biotin helps keep skin and fur healthy, which makes it an important part of your dog’s diet. It can help with cell growth, muscle tone and energy production, and it aids digestion by helping with protein metabolism.

Vitamin B9 (Folic Acid)

Vitamin B9, also known as folic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin that is essential for cell development and growth. Folate helps your dog make new cells and DNA while preventing birth defects during pregnancy or when a female dog gives birth to puppies.

As a water-soluble vitamin, your furry friend can't store it like the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K - so it's important to keep their diet rich in this nutrient.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin for dogs, and it’s one that can cause some pretty serious health problems if your dog doesn’t get enough. In humans, vitamin B12 deficiency leads to anaemia and neurological damage; in dogs, it can lead to the same symptoms—and potentially more serious ones.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps dogs maintain a healthy immune function. It also aids in the production of collagen, which is used to build strong skin and a healthy coat.

Vitamin C also helps with healing wounds by preventing free radical damage. If your dog has a condition that causes excessive bleeding or bruising, for example, then it might need an extra boost to their daily intake from a supplement.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is essential to maintain your dog's healthy bones and teeth, along with a healthy immune system. It also helps with calcium absorption, which is important for strong bones and teeth.

Vitamin D also plays a role in maintaining healthy skin, coat and nails. If your dog isn't getting enough vitamin D, they may experience fur loss or dry skin.

Additionally, vitamin D also helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the blood stream so it can be properly absorbed into bone tissue.

Without enough vitamin D your dog could develop kidney stones or hyperparathyroidism (an overactive parathyroid gland).

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that helps to keep the immune system healthy and protects your dog's skin from damage. Vitamin E has also been shown to prevent heart disease in humans and dogs alike, so if your pet is prone to this condition it's worth giving them some extra vitamin E each day.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that may help prevent cancer and other diseases related to aging. It can also help treat certain types of arthritis in dogs by reducing inflammation and pain in joints, as well as promoting healing after injury or surgery.

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is essential for blood clotting. A vitamin K deficiency can cause uncontrollable bleeding. It's found in leafy green vegetables like spinach and broccoli, and it's also produced by bacteria in the gut.

Calcium

Calcium is an essential mineral for your dog. It helps build strong bones and teeth, and it also plays a role in muscle contractions, including heartbeat. In addition to its importance for building bones and teeth, calcium supports nerve transmission, which means that it can help with pain management.

Iron

Iron is an essential mineral that contributes to healthy blood and overall wellness. As dogs (and humans) age, their bodies may not absorb as much iron from food sources as they did when they were younger. Iron deficiency can make your pet feel tired, weak, and irritable.

Iron deficiency is a common problem in dogs because they produce very little of the iron needed for their bodies. That means if they don’t get enough from their diet or supplements, a deficiency can easily develop over time.

Iron deficiency can cause anaemia and other serious health problems like internal bleeding and organ failure if left untreated.

It's important for you to look into adding iron supplements for dogs to their diets if they show any of these symptoms:

  • weakness
  • lack of energy
  • pale gums
  • irregular heartbeat
