You may know by now that here at Sealions, we buddy up with charities to support causes we really believe in. Since November 2021, our chosen cause was helping to protect and improve the conservation status of the endangered Mediterranean Monk Seal, through our charity partner MOm.
MOm (also known as the Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk Seal), is a non-profit organisation which provides protection, care and rehabilitation for the most endangered seal species on earth. They also carry out scientific research alongside their conservation projects, to help them continue to create a safe space for the Mediterranean monk seal.
Another major goal for the charity is to reduce human-related monk seal mortality, with a focus on raising public awareness and sensitisation. The team at MOm regularly carry out training seminars, helping to educate people on how to respond in emergency situations when seals are found in danger or distress, teaching participants the correct protocols to get the help they need.
Founded in 1988, MOm have been working to save the Mediterranean monk seal for over 30 years, with projects such as their Sample Bank, and their discovery of the most important monk seal colony in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, then consequently their work to create a protected marine area for the species.
We know how much our customers care about creating a happier and healthier world, which is why we wanted to make sure you all were involved too! We gave you, our customers, the option to add a small donation of your choice when shopping at sealions.com, and we’re so thankful for each and every one of your donations!
Together, you all raised an amazing £1,027.26, which will help MOm to continue their amazing research and conservation work. To learn more about the charity, or make your own donation to MOm, head to their website.
Our current charity partner is Rain Rescue, a charity dedicated to helping pets in crisis, and we hope that you will join us in supporting them over the coming months.
