Do I Need To Increase My Protein Intake?

A new year often means new health goals. Whether that’s increasing your gains in the gym, or simply giving your body all of the goodness it needs, our new range of protein powders can give you a helping hand in achieving the results you want.

What is protein?

Protein is an essential macronutrient that plays several essential roles in your body, including providing you with energy and helping your body to grow and recover, which is ideal if you have an active lifestyle or are working out regularly. However, how much protein you’re consuming isn’t just something to think about if you’re hitting the gym.

Do I need to increase my protein intake?

The daily Reference Intake (RI) for protein for adults in the UK is 0.75g per every kilogram of body weight, which on average is 45g per day for women, and 55g per day for men. Many people will find that they meet the RI by following a healthy and balanced diet, but there are several factors which may mean you could benefit from increasing your daily protein intake. It’s also important to note that our bodies are unable to store proteins permanently, so it’s essential to make sure you are getting enough each day.

The foods with the highest levels of protein are typically animal products such as meat, fish, eggs and dairy – plant-based foods such as grains, nuts and seeds can also have a good protein content, although people following a vegetarian or vegan diet may find it a little harder to meet their recommended daily intake from their diet alone.

Proteins contain crucial amino acids which are the building blocks of muscle tissue, essential for muscle growth, and perfect for an active lifestyle, so you may also be looking to increase your protein intake if you’re working hard in the gym and want to support the growth, maintenance and recovery of your muscles. Increasing your protein intake can also help your body to recover from your fast-paced, demanding workouts and support in achieving your fitness goals.

How can I increase my protein intake?

Increasing your daily intake of protein can be really simple – and delicious – by adding a protein supplement to your diet. With our new range of protein powders, you can boost your daily intake with up to 38g per serving!

With three different powders – our Whey Protein, Vegan Protein & Lean Protein – you can create a delicious protein shake to suit your dietary requirements.
